You do not have a travel time requirement
You do not need to include lodging
You do not need to include costs (this will count as extra credit should you wish to include it)
You do not need to include an MLA page
You do not need to include small scale maps (just show us where you are going/ your route, etc.)
You CAN hand write your country fact sheets (be sure to include that information creatively somewhere in your film)
Make your plans assuming you will face no threat of danger
Your challenges will end up being more like activities (seeing religious relics at a temple, etc.)
Sleeping at a famous museum/hotel is not considered an activity

THE PROJECT:
**See the attachments for a complete description, country fact sheet, and rubric.***
Objective: To apply the knowledge you gained in AP HuG into an amazing race around the globe. You will need to do basic and specific research for many different places in the world. You will need to document basic statistics, as well as dig deeper to discover those rare, bizarre, intriguing, and fascinating cultural practices of peoples from around the world. If you can develop a theme for your journey, that will be even better! **Plan accordingly and use your time wisely... as always, if you are spending more than an hour each night on this class, you are OVER doing it. Keep it simple! THE POINT OF THIS PROJECT IS TO REVIEW THE MATERIAL WE HAVE STUDIED THUS FAR AND TO APPLY IT IN A MORE EXCITING WAY! This project should help you review for your midterm by incorporating the vocabulary and analyzing country statuses, shapes, and so forth. Please treat this as a tool for review.
Our movie premiere/ this project is due on 12/18, no exceptions! I will randomly call groups to present their video documentary; you MUST be in class when your group presents. Keep in mind that this is a movie-based project meaning that your findings will all be presented to the class via an iMovie or MovieMaker presentation (in other words you will not talk during your presentation but rather be available for questions at the conclusion of your film). Groups will be assigned; see the weebly for your group members. You may not complete this project individually nor may you change your group member assignments.
REMEMBER: Working in a group is a life skill. You will live with the group…you will die with the group! This is one of the challenges of this project.
Directions:
-You are to design an “AMAZING RACE” film documentary. Your film should be between 5-10 minutes in length. Your racers need to visit 2 places each day for a total of 14 places (activities, not necessarily countries) on 5 different continents. It is up to you to decide how to split it all up. Aside from any requirements given, (state shapes, LDC/MDC’s, continents, activity types) you have the freedom to select the remaining as you see fit any way you want.
-You must visit at least 3 MDCs and three LDCs along the way. As well, you must visit at least one of the following country shapes: compact, fragmented, elongated, and prorupted.
***(Anything not specifically laid out in the project is then up to your choice to do however you wish).
- A map is necessary! At a minimum, one grand overview map showing your total trip / routes taken must be displayed so the class can gain an understanding of your travels.
-In each location, your racers need to do a challenge activity, (i.e., visit a Buddhist Temple and pray with the monks)
for which they must travel to a specific place. For each place/activity you will need to explain the cultural
history/significance of the place and activity done at the place in your narrative. (Kiss the Blarney Stone in
Ireland, play golf in Scotland, participate in a voodoo ritual in Haiti, translate a passage from some famous work
from its original foreign language etc.) You may or may not have an overall theme to your trip.
- Come up with a challenge (an activity), either physical or mental, at each stop along the way. These challenges must be related to the location that you choose (i.e. geographic questions, cultural questions, games, or physical challenges, etc). There has to be a cultural connection between the challenge and the location / people or I will
deduct points from your score.(Roadblock: you can’t just say run a mile on some road or take a tour) Think of
cultural practices/rituals you could in which you could engage. The most important part of this project is
your research into different cultures - who they are, what they do, and why they do it. Then clearly
explain how you are interacting with that culture through a challenge activity.
-You need to explain how you will travel to these places: travel by air, train, taxi, etc.
-You must have a narrative of the race, including at least THREE key terms from the chapters of the textbook per place visited / activity done. For example: We visited the Tokyo Museum, which is in Japan’s largest CBD (DEF). In the museum we saw artifacts depicting nationalism (DEF) stemming from Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor. When they were finished, we stepped outside to see many people using animate power (DEF) on their bicycles to get from place to place. Terms eligible are from the textbook, class notes, or the Princeton Review book. Your narrative is simply your storyline for your movie. You can include this as text within iMovie or you can include it as a voice recording. **THERE IS NO WRITTEN ESSAY**
PRESENTATION
This Project will be divided into two major components.
1. iMovie or Movie Maker: This will visually display and document your race design – all the above requirements must be included in your video; take the audience on your journey through your vivid descriptions, cultural enlightenments, maps, pictures, videos (if applicable), route plans, captions, information about your locations/activities, and vocabulary tie-ins. Tell why you chose the places/ activities you did, and why they are culturally, politically, and/or economically significant to that country. Explain the cultural significance/history of the places/activities you did. We want to learn about the people and their customs! You are not just summarizing here. Please tell a good story, and clearly explain your cultures and interactions, and when you act, sleep, fly, drive etc.. Again, please label things clearly within your narrative film (took a domestic flight… etc.). Don’t forget to include the vocabulary terms
**You must also be visually appealing, organized, and creative with this.
2. Research: Please breakdown by country by using the Country Fact Sheets. Please clearly label everything! (www.state.gov is a good place for this info as well as the country research project link on the library’s website)
Please ensure you put your NAMES on EVERYTHING
-Be creative and have fun! Any questions, please see me.
-Obviously the more creative, descriptive, adventurous, detailed, clear, and research backed you are, the better your grade will be.
Good luck, happy and safe travels!!

Super Test Resources
Start studying now! What should you do??
- Use your vocab notebook: study the vocab/ flip the columns over and memorize. Memorization is the FIRST step but not the ONLY step.
- Use your book's website (all sections are very helpful) as it is good practice applying analytical/critical thinking skills: http://wps.prenhall.com/esm_rubenstein_humangeo_8/
- Use google to search for relevant Quizlets or create your own Quizlet.
- Use your past tests and quizzes to help you review and determine concepts with which you need extra review.
- Most importantly, study a little bit each night so you are not overwhelmed and so that you have plenty of time to practice applying all of the material we covered. A word of caution: do not wait until the last minute only to memorize, as this will not result in a passing grade.
**There are no corrections for the Super Test. The Super Test covers chapters 1-8 (everything we covered to date). This is good practice for your AP test in May (which also does not allow for corrections). Use this as a learning experience and prepare, prepare, prepare. Your test will be 75 multiple choice questions (no essays, no true/false questions, just multiple choice). You will be allowed the last fifteen minutes of the class period to consult your book and/or vocab notebook. *A word of caution: do not rely on using your book or you will not score well on your test.
