Halloween and Human Geography... A Connection??
Monday 11/4/13
To review Chapter 5, Key Issue 4, YOU will teach the class. You will be assigned to one of the following eight groups:
Group One - Preserving Language Diversity
Group Two - Hebrew: Reviving Extinct Languages
Group Three - Celtic: Preserving Endangered Languages
Group Four - Multilingual States
Group Five - Isolated Languages
Group Six - Global Dominance of English
Group Seven - English as a Lingua Franca
Group Eight - Diffusion to Other Languages
Resources: you should be able to remember most of the information from your previous night's reading; however, you may use your textbook, the slideshow/PDF for Chapter 5, Key Issue 4 posted above, or any electronic resource using your iPad. Feel free to use audio files to demonstrate any relevant languages during your presentation but please keep in mind, your group is limited to a maximum of five minutes in which to present. In all, you should review your content, summarize/paraphrase it, and prepare a five minute group presentation to cover your assigned topic. **You have fifteen minutes to prepare your presentation, so dividing the work is crucial in order to be successful.**
Group Expectations: each person in your group will take an active role in presenting your assigned section to the class. When presenting, each group will come to the front of the classroom and all together each group will have a maximum of five minutes in which to present their information; make it interesting and engaging (don't be boring like me!). Ensure you cover and explain all key concepts and vocabulary words. Examples or multimedia often helps others to better understand information.
Audience Expectations: while groups present, you should be quiet, listening and taking notes (you may create a new note in Notability or take notes by hand). Should you have questions, please be respectful and raise your hand; otherwise, there should be no talking except by the group presenting (disruptions will result in a loss of points on your own presentation).
**Any groups who do not get to present on Monday will present at the beginning of class on Tuesday**
Really do all you can to help each other better understand this key issue. Teaching others is the best way not only to learn information but to reinforce it and remember it. Good luck and happy teaching!
